Influences and Style:
As a child, George was exposed to a broad array of contemporary 1970’s and 1980’s music, with focus areas in progressive and jazz-rock (e.g. Yes, ELP, Steely Dan) then alternative and new wave (e.g. XTC, Thomas Dolby, Oingo Boingo) as he developed his own musical vision. Around 2005, in the movie Garden State, he discovered the music of Zero 7 as part of the Chill/Down Tempo/Deep House genre, and this and the broader range of electronic music (e.g. EDM, Ambient, House, Rave) have occupied his listening and compositional interests ever since. The music of William Orbit, Air, Nora En Pure, and many other electronic music artists particularly resonate with him. George’s style both spans and defies multiple sub-genres of electronic music. He employs repetitive grooves in his rhythm sections, overlaying these with various synthesizer and other instrumentation with the intent of a full, unified sensibility. He blends warm, euphoric colors and syncopated or industrial motifs with thick chord arrangements in sometimes saturated and sometimes restrained music. One will find a splash of funk and a dollop of jazz mixed into some of his arrangements. The songs to date were recorded using Apple GarageBand and Logic Pro digital audio workstations (DAWs). Given the power of the recording software, George lets his compositions speak for themselves and avoids over-engineering and sonic detail obsession during and after the recording process.
